I finally managed to finish reading "Sleepless" yesterday! Check out my blog review below:
Sleepless by Lou Morgan
What first caught my attention about this book is how quick the story got started. By chapter 2, the characters were already getting into the swing of things by taking a pill that they knew nothing about or how it was going to affect them. As the story began to unfold, it reminded me of the film "Limitless" (where Bradley Cooper took a "new" pill which altered his mind giving him an incredible memory abilities of both speed and accuracy amongst other things but then has a detrimental effect on his well-being!).
The characters appeared to be of a familiar typecast ie the nerd, the genius, the mean girl, the rationale but one of the main characters, Izzy stood out the most for me. She was brave, thoughtful and witty and kept me intrigued every step of the way! Her sidekick, Grey was also of interest as you could tell they were very good friends but they also shared a deeper bond which the other characters didn't have.
Each chapter was outlined in graphic detail and kept me wanting to read on until my eyes were burning! The plot definitely picks up momentum by chapter 5 and starts to make you think that this type of scenario could actually be a possibility! Are the shadows that we see really figments of our imaginations or are they some sort of dark forces among us?
By chapter 12, as the group starts to disappear one by one and the tension is beginning to build up about what is fact and what is fiction, you can't help but try and work "whodunit" every time you read a new pointer. The last chapter is extremely gripping from start to end. To find out who was behind the murders had me baffled as I genuinely didn't see that one coming! My only gripe is the ending left me a bit confused. I don't really understand what happened to Izzy and Grey but maybe you'll work it out when you read it!
I truly enjoyed this book and would recommend it as a "good" read to anyone who is interesting in thriller, horror and fantasy then this is definitely one for you!!
