"Monster" by CJ Skuse is another read from Netgalley.
This book has a thriller/suspense feel about it and has held my interest so far.
The story is set in a boarding school with the main character, Natasha or "Nash" to her friends being stuck there during the Christmas holidays due to her brother going missing in Columbia. The only other girls Natasha has for company is Maggie (the school rebel), Clarice (the school tart/bully), Regan (a loner), Dianna (the new Head Girl) and Tabitha (a young pupil). However, it seems the girls not the only ones staying at the boarding school as there are continued rumours and suspected sightings of "a beast" which is meant to be staking out the grounds around the school.
So far, I enjoy the relationship between Maggie and the school Matron as they totally despise one another and engage in full-on slanging matches whenever they meet. The Head teacher, Mrs Saul-Hudson is firm but fair and has a genuine liking for Natasha especially as she has been her right -hand whilst trying to get herself elected for the vacant Head Girl position. However, this post is passed over to Dianna when Natasha finds herself in a violent confrontation with Clarice.
I think I have a fair understanding of how this story will end with the girls eventually finding the "beast" and saving the school from a traumatic ending, but in the meantime, I am happy to continue reading to find out for myself!
