I received a copy of this book from the author, C.E Wilson in exchange for an honest review.
Synopsis
White Frost has only ever known the darkness. Everything outside of her closed society is The Unknown – a strange and dangerous place accessible to only a chosen few. White’s only glimpse of the world beyond comes from her beloved cousin in the form of mysterious collections of words that hint at astonishing wonders. When an accident upends her simple existence, she’s given an unlikely chance to see the truth for herself. What she finds is greater and more terrible than she could have imagined, and before long she is forced to make the most important choice of her life: does she accept her safe, limited world that she’s known or take a desperate gamble in a world not meant for her with the Boy with Words?
My review
When I first started reading this book, I thought I could already tell how the story was going to pan out. However, as it happens I was pleasantly surprised! The plot took twists and turns which continually held my interest and the fact that one of the man characters- White Frost was so strong, feisty and determined to get what she wanted, just added to my intrigue!
The relationship which developed between White and the other main character- Kestrel (Kes for short) was adorable! It was something that shouldn't have worked but definitely did! Even though they were from two different worlds and their situation was unconventional, they had a deep connection which made them inseparable.
The initial part of this story reminded me of "Tainted" by Alexandra Moody as the characters in this book where also based underground and had no knowledge or insight as to what was going on around them in the outside world.
The chapters were quite short which made it easy to keep up with and didn't allow the story to drag on for too long. I quite liked the ending of the story as I felt that it would have been to obvious to have the characters go their separate ways.
My first read of a book by this author and I would be interested to see what C.E Wilson has to offer next!!
4 out of 5 stars.
