I received an ARC of this book by Blue Moon Publishers in exchange for an honest review.
Synopsis
Young up-and-coming author Liz McKinnen has no idea that her life is about to change forever when she comes home from her first book tour. When she's kidnapped and told by her captors that she has to kill her fantasy book's antagonist, she thinks that she's fallen into the hands of crazy, dangerous fans... until her antagonist sends a real, fire-breathing dragon after her.
Liz is quickly initiated into the Immortal Writers, a group of authors from throughout time whose words have given them eternal life, and whose prose is so powerful that it's brought stories over from the Imagination Field into the Reality Field. As Liz meets authors such as William Shakespeare, JRR Tolkien, Edgar Allan Poe, and Jane Austen, she has to learn how to control magic, fight dragons, and face her own troubled past before her power-hungry villain takes over the world. Will she survive the ultimate battle against the dragon lord whom she created?
My review
Absolutely loved it!! I'm quite a new reader to sci-fi/fantasy books but this one was a great read.
Having won an award and a sizeable amount of prize money for her new book, Liz McKinnen is suddenly transported or rather "kidnapped" to a new world with the characters from her story as well as other famous writers. At first, Liz does not believe what has happened and seeks to find answers to her new surroundings. But with the aid of the main characters from her book, the mother figure Healer, the brave and protective Rob, the wise old Shakespeare and the love of her life and fearless dragon warrior Curtis, Liz begins a new journey which sees her battle her wits and strength against more dangerous characters from her story to defeat the evil Kendric as well as face her own demons from the past.
The storyline was smooth and plain-sailing and the chapters were a decent length. I thoroughly enjoyed the plot about a writer getting to meet and interact with the characters from her book, not to mention fall "in love" with one of them!!
It took me a little while to read this book as it was a bit longer than other stories but I'm glad I persevered to the end as the book was magical, enchanting with the right amount of humour!
This will definitely stay as one of my favourite reads for 2016 and I hope we don't have to wait too long for the next sequel to this book!!
